Book Review: I Quit Being a Christian to Follow Jesus by Alan Scott
Book Review: I Quit Being a Christian to Follow Jesus by Alan Scott
This book is a study centered around the book of Luke and each chapter starts off with a short passage from Luke to read. Also included are personal stories, a few quotes from other Christians and lots and lots of questions.
One of its biggest pluses is all the questions. It seems to be loaded with them. These questions are one way this book helps you to think differently.
I enjoyed Mr. Scott’s writing style and found it conversational, pleasant, and not stuffy but real and authentic. Plenty of times it made me smile, too.
The author includes different perspectives or “spins” on the topics that he has chosen to talk about from Luke but I did not feel any of them were unbiblical. Instead I found it to just be a challenge to think and act differently or even just to think, period.
One of my biggest takeaways was that there isn’t just one way to view anything.
If you enjoy books that challenge your thinking then you should give this book a look!

Thanks for the review. The title would turn me off a little from reading it, but I appreciate your perspective that you didn’t find anything unbiblical about it.
The title made me curious…
Unlike Carolyn, I find that the title makes me want to know why he made that statement. Thanks for the review. blessings, Amy
The title made me curious as well.
I was curious about the title as well. How does it fit with the content of the book? Oh, Luke is my favorite gospel!
The author has his own way of thinking what it means to be a Christian. I think he doesn’t like being put into a mold. That doesn’t bother me because originally it wasn’t the Christians that used that term. Instead it was nonchristians that called believers that and it was probably not a compliment either. I like to think of myself as a Christ-follower as well.
Cheryl,
Sounds like a compelling book. It is always interesting to take a look at other people’s viewpoint of long held interpretations of the Bible.
I like to hear different ways of looking at things. This book did that.
It sounds like an interesting book, title and all.
Yes, interesting is a very good word to describe it.
