Repentance Prayers and Quotes
What is repentance?
Or what does it mean to be repentant?
Repentant in Webster’s 1828 dictionary means: 1. Sorrowful for past conduct or words. 2. Sorrowful for sin. 3. Expressing or showing sorrow for sin; as repentant tears;
In other words, it is not merely feeling sorry for getting caught, or going to jail or for a certain consequence that occurred from your sin, but instead you are sorry for sinning, sorry for the sin itself, even sorry for offending a holy God.
The Bible talks about a repentance that is real and one that is not real.
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Cor. 7:9-10 KJV
Clearly there are two types of repentance. One is godly and one is not.
When a man is not deeply convicted of sin, it is a pretty sure sign that he has not truly repented. Experience has taught me that men who have very slight conviction of sin sooner or later lapse back into their old life. Dwight L Moody

Impenitent, unhumbled hearts are.. not reclaimed by God’s rebukes because they think themselves wronged by them. Evidence of our hardness is that we are more concerned about our sufferings than our sins. Matthew Henry

The individual who truly repents, not only sees sin to be detestable and vile and worthy of abhorrence, but he really abhors it, and hates it in his heart. A person may see sin to be hurtful and abominable, while yet his heart loves it, and desires it, and clings to it. But when he truly repents, he most heartily abhors and renounces it. Charles Finney
