A Deeper Kind of Calm by Linda Dillow

A Deeper Kind of Calm by Linda Dillow

I enjoyed reading this book very much. I found it to be refreshing, calming and comforting.

Linda Dillow takes the reader on a little journey through four Psalms and pulls out wonderful spiritual “gems” and shares them with the reader. There were quite a few of these hidden “gems” scattered throughout the book in unexpected places. The four Psalms were perfect for her goal of comforting and encouraging her readers.

Sauteed Liver- The Nutritive King of Meats

Cheryl Cope Posted on April 13, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

Sauteed Liver – The Nutritive King of Meats
I borrowed the subtitle for liver from my first nutritionist mentor (via books), Adelle Davis.

Obtain a healthy cow’s liver from your local farmer’s market.

Saute onions and/or bacon in butter and/or coconut oil for several minutes. Take those out of the pan and set aside.

The Real Skinny on Losing it by Michelle McKinney Hammond

Cheryl Cope Posted on April 8, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

I found this book to be entertaining and easy to read. If you are a fan of this author or like really conversational-styled writing then you will like this book, too.

If you have struggled with gaining and losing weight repeatedly (a “yo-yo dieter”) then you will feel right at home. Michelle does a superb job of making that type of woman feel like she is not alone. She is open and honest about her successes and failures in the weight loss diet arena in such a way that everyone can relate, even if you aren’t a “yo-yo dieter”.

Mom And The Dalai Lama

Cheryl Cope Posted on April 6, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

I picked up a new book the other day by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, entitled: How To Be Compassionate: A Handbook For Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World. My purpose in buying the book was to find the common ground between Buddhism and Christianity, and was inspired by my knowledge that Thomas Merton (a Trappist Monk and writer) had meetings with the Dalai Lama. In general terms, according to the Dalai Lama, compassion, even with a little self-interest thrown in, can change us, and in doing so, can change the world.

The Christian “S” Word

Cheryl Cope Posted on April 4, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

The Christian “S” Word

What’s that? Submission is the Christian “S” word. For some people, submission is like a dirty swear word. It is dreaded by some people, especially wives, and pastors fear to preach on it.

Perhaps they should fear to preach about it because in the western Christian church, false teachings around it seem to be running rampant. I realize this is a very controversial subject but I felt compelled to share some small tidbits of this vast subject that the Holy Spirit has been teaching me on this subject and this is not intended to be exhaustive by any means.

Humility by Andrew Murray

Humility by Andrew Murray

I decided to review this true Christian “classic”. If you are unaware of this book, I hope this will pique your interest enough to go buy a copy of this book for yourself.

This book, “Humility”, by Andrew Murray is one of my top ten absolute favorite Christian books of all. I don’t think I can say enough good things about it to do it justice.

Comfort in the Ordinary

Cheryl Cope Posted on March 30, 2011 by Cheryl CopeMarch 6, 2021

We often take for granted the ordinary things of every day life, but these are often what we long for in times following tragedy. When we are beset by tragedy we can find comfort in doing the little things. These include taking care of our families and ourselves; making and meeting schedules; cooking a meal; washing dishes; filling out forms; making phone calls to follow up on business items – you get the idea. In these ordinary activities, though, we discover there is much comfort. They take us away from ourselves, and our troubles, for a short time, so that our time can be other-focused.
