Book Review: Experiencing Joy by Patty Mason
Book Review: Experiencing Joy by Patty Mason
This book contains strategies for living a joy filled life, as the tagline says. It is intended mostly for those suffering from depression but also for those combating anger, fear and anxiety.
Mrs. Mason lovingly but firmly takes you by the hand and leads you through each needed (even if painful) step in order for you to experience true healing which leads to true joy.
She understands what you’re going through because she’s been there. But there is no “coddling” here, no “enabling” here, no allowances for excuses here.
I found this book to be well balanced between not being a “buck-it-up” type of message and also not being a misery-loves-company or a “oh, poor dear” false sympathy type of message.
This book is also chock full of truth—clear, plain and simple truth—challenging, painful, needed truth. But most of all loving truth. The author knows how to speak the truth in love.
As for the strategies themselves? Loved them as well! Included were chapters on confession, proclaiming God’s Word, forgiveness, praise and worship and helping others.
I loved the emphasis overall on faith and obedience and the helpful questions at the end of every chapter. I found the whole book to be centered around your relationship with Christ. What could be more perfect than that?
I found this book to be a living example of 2 Cor. 1:4—of Mrs. Mason using the comfort she received from God during her own trial of depression, in comforting others. Expertly done at that.
