For His Mercy Endureth For Ever
…for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:1-26 KJV (repeated at the end of every one of these 26 verses!)
Do you think God repeats things for no reason? I don’t. This must be important! Besides, I had asked God specifically what was it that I needed to believe about Him and immediately in my daily reading I found myself at Psalm 136 where that phrase is repeated no less than 26 times! I figured I had better pay attention!
His mercy endures forever. What is mercy then? Mercy is that benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves…the closest synonym in the English is grace. [from Webster’s 1828 dictionary—my favorite]
His lovingkindness endures forever
Since this word in the Greek is also translated as lovingkindness several times, we need to know what that means. Love means to be pleased with, to have a strong liking or desire towards. Kindness is good will, benevolence, that temper or disposition which delights in contributing to the happiness of others, which is exercised cheerfully in gratifying their wishes, supplying their wants or alleviating their distresses, any act of benevolence which promotes the happiness or welfare of others.
I hope you are as amazed as I am. All of these wonderful meanings of these words are from God towards us and they endure for ever!!
God overlooks our injuries forever. God treats us better than we deserve forever. God is pleased with us forever. God likes us and desires us forever. God delights in contributing to our happiness forever. God cheerfully gratifies our wishes forever. God supplies our wants forever. God alleviates our distresses forever. God promotes our happiness and welfare forever!!!
It goes on forever
Forever. It never stops. It isn’t interrupted. It keeps on going. Forever, for eternity, endlessly. At all times, Always.
God’s mercy and lovingkindness towards us is forever. God’s mercy and lovingkindness towards us never stops and is never interrupted. God’s mercy and lovingkindness towards us keeps on going, lasts for eternity and is endless. God’s mercy and lovingkindness towards us continues at all times, and is always in operation. How awesome is that?
