Book Review: Encountering Angels by Judith MacNutt
Book Review: Encountering Angels by Judith MacNutt
True stories of how they touch our lives every day…
Ms. MacNutt, the author of this book, has collected stories about angels for many years. The wide variety of types of stories is a testament to this.
This wide variety of first hand story authors is the main strength of this book. There are stories from people in all walks of life and there are stories about angels protecting us, helping to heal us, giving us messages, helping us in worship, helping us die and helping us grieve and more.
A large portion of the stories are of the “ordinary” kind, where an angel appears in the form of a human and is not recognized as an angel until he/she disappears. There is another portion of stories that is about seeing or hearing angels as truly spirit beings either in person or in visions/dreams.
All of the stories are believable, however, I do not believe that every story is about angels, per se. All the stories are about the supernatural and that’s a good thing. They will increase your faith for that but some of the stories appear to me about God using ordinary human beings that are being obedient to a specific circumstance and some of the stories seem to be about the Holy Spirit intervening directly in a person’s life and lastly some of the stories seem to involve a human being using the gift of prophecy or prophetic intercession.
The stories that I felt were not about actual angels severely annoyed me as this book is suppose to be about angels. But, even so, those very stories still had value and could increase your faith in the supernatural realm in general.
This book did not contain theological information on what angels actually are, their functions etc. It did not contain information on the demonic or on spiritual warfare. Encountering Angels did not claim to contain this information but in case you are looking for these this book is not for you.
This book is for you if you like true stories of the inspirational type, true stories of angels or if you would like to increase your faith in the supernatural in general.
