The Turning is a fiction book about God bringing together dissimilar people for one purpose—to come against a plot from the enemy using media to get people to believe that hope is dead.
The story was very believable. This seemed like it could really happen.
The characters were developed into believable Christians, not with cliches or stereotypes. They have emotional struggles, actually pray about things and hear from God in dreams and visions. Yes, coming from Moody Publishers, the characters seemed more charismatic than not!
Everything in this book seemed realistic and believable. The dialogue was realistic and the God-incidents (“coincidences”) were also realistic.
The mystery of what might be happening kept my interest throughout the whole story. I wanted to find out how it ended.
I struggled a little bit to follow the story line at first because before each character was developed I found it hard to follow along when the author kept going back and forth between scenes, places and characters. I wouldn’t consider this an actual fault of the book, it’s just something that a lot of fiction books have in common—they need to introduce lots of characters that aren’t all in the same place at the same time.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book very much. I didn’t at all have to force myself to finish it. I honestly wanted to read to the end to see how it all turned out. The ending was believable and realistic as well and not disappointing.
