Book Review: When I Journal He Speaks by Dr. Michelle Miner
Book Review: When I Journal He Speaks by Dr. Michelle Miner
A Journaling Journey to Greater Intimacy with God
This book is all about journaling as a way of listening for God’s voice. It is based on a technique that the author learned from Mark Virkler but is not at all merely a copy of his material and it does include Mark’s four keys to hearing God.
Instead this book includes quite a lot of the author’s own journaling of hearing the voice of God—what she thinks God spoke to her—even a sample for almost every exercise included! It was very helpful to have all those samples to read instead of just one or two samples from someone else’s journaling experiences.
Another integral part of this book was the many tidbits of spiritual wisdom included that were about God Himself or helps to better journaling. Another big plus is the ample space to record your own actual journaling attempts in the actual book itself.
To sum up, each chapter contains several pieces of biblical wisdom, several journaling exercises with actual specific questions to ask of the Holy Spirit, samples of these same questions from the author’s own journals, and plenty of space to record your own journaling. A perfect combination!
This book is perfect for someone who loves to journal with God, for someone who is interested in learning how to journal with God or for someone who is interested in greater intimacy with God.
