For Our Good
For Our Good
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 KJV
Very familiar. Often quoted. Memorized. Told to friends.
But what is the good that this verse is referring to?
Is it your definition of what good is? Does it have to feel good to our emotions? Does it have to bring us prosperity? Does it mean we have good health? Does it mean our relationships are without problems?
What does our “good” mean to God?
The answer is simple really! All you have to do is look at the very next verse!
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29 KJV
Our very best good is to be conformed to the image of Christ!! This does not always feel good to our flesh. It does not always appear to be “good” in our own estimation. It does always look like what we expect it to look like. But, you can trust in His promise still, that all things work together for our good—to conform us to the image of Christ.
Basically, you can then say that this is true—that all things work together for good to conform me into the image of Christ. Remind yourself of this truth the next time things don’t appear to be working out for your good. Ask yourself what character quality of Christ could God be trying to work out in you in this circumstance?
