God Tries Our Hearts
God Tries Our Hearts
…the Lord trieth the hearts. Pr. 17:3 KJV
…God trieth the hearts…Ps. 7:9 KJV
…God, which trieth our hearts. 1 Thess. 2:4 KJV
Clearly from these scriptures, God tries our hearts. What exactly does that mean—tries? Tests, examine, prove by a test. So God is testing our hearts.
God knows our hearts.
…God knoweth your hearts… Luke 16:15 KJV
…God, which knoweth the hearts… Acts 15:8 KJV
Clearly we can see that God knows our hearts. If God already knows our hearts why then is He testing them? Most people feel it is to reveal to us what is in our own hearts—God already knows, we do not.
That might seem like a bad thing to you. It doesn’t to me. It is possible for our own hearts to deceive us and for there to be hidden wickedness that we don’t even know is there. Because of that, it is a very good thing that God tries our hearts.
David must have thought it was a good thing, too. He prayed for God to try him.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts. Ps. 139: 23 KJV [not a bad prayer to make your own either!]
The next time you feel you are being “tested” by God sit up and take notice. He is trying to tell you something. God already knows what’s in your heart, you do not. And if you feel so inclined, pray David’s prayer!
