God’s Awesome Holiness
God’s Awesome Holiness
What is Holiness?
Holiness is the state or quality of being holy, so we need to explore what the word holy means!
Holy means whole, entire or perfect, in a moral sense, or pure in heart, or free from sin and sinful affections. Applied to the Supreme Being, holy signifies perfectly pure, immaculate and complete in moral character, which in my opinion the word holy can only properly be applied to God Himself and no one else.
Why is God’s holiness called awesome?
Awesome means to inspire awe, which means fear mingled with admiration or reverence or reverential fear or that which fills with profound reverence.
What are we supposed to be in reverence towards? God, of course, and only God.
Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy… Rev 15:4
