Start your Morning Right with Christ
Start your Morning Right with Christ
What could be better than starting your day with your Lord in prayer1?
I don’t know any sincere Christian who would say it is wrong to pray first thing in the morning and I know quite a lot who would say it is necessary.
There is both biblical precedent for seeking the Lord first thing (or early) in the morning and historical precedent. So let’s look at these.
Jesus went off in the early morning hours to pray and be alone with God. If Jesus did it, how much more must we need to do this?
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he [Jesus] went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. Mark 1:35 KJV
The Psalmist also sought God and prayed in the morning.
My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalm 5:3 KJV

Lots of devout Christians have seen the need to start their days right by seeking God in prayer early in the morning. Check out these quotes below.
Watch the morning watch. Do not see the face of man until you have seen the face of God. Before you enter on the day with its temptations, look up into His face and hide His Word in your heart. F.B. Meyer
F. B. Meyer is not the only one to see the wisdom of seeing the face of God before the face of man!! Both Charles Spurgeon and D. L. Moody have similar sentiments.
We ought to see the face of God every morning before we see the face of man. D.L. Moody
It is a good rule never to look into the face of a man in the morning till you have looked into the face of God. Charles Spurgeon
The entire day receives order and discipline when it acquires unity. This unity must be sought and found in morning prayer. The morning prayer determines the day. Dietrich Bonhoeffer
The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees. He who fritters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day. If God is not first in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, He will be in the last place the remainder of the day. E.M. Bounds
He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest of the day. John Bunyan

I ought to pray before seeing any one…Christ arose before day and went into a solitary place. David says: ‘Early will I seek thee’…I feel it is far better to begin with God-to see His face first, to get my soul near Him before it is near another. Robert Murray M’Cheyne
Even more quotes from other Christians on the importance of seeking God in prayer first thing in the morning…
The prayer offered to God in the morning during your quiet time is the key that unlocks the door of the day. Any athlete knows that it is the start that ensures a good finish. Adrian Rogers
If I fail to spend two hours in prayer each morning, the devil gets the victory through the day. I have so much business I cannot get on without spending three hours daily in prayer. Martin Luther
I know of no way to experience unbroken union and communion with our beloved Lord Jesus apart from a conscious, deliberate choice to spend time alone with Him each morning. Nancy Leigh DeMoss
So what will you do to ensure that you seek God early in the day? Will you set your alarm earlier than usual? Will you go to bed earlier? Will you leave the house in the early morning or lock yourself in a private room in the early morning?
