Visual Artist Spotlight: Sam Tait
Visual Artist Spotlight: Sam Tait
Q1) When did you decide to become an artist?
A1)As a little I knew I wanted to be an artist and started with potato people on the back page of my mother’s dictionary.
Q2) When, if at all, did you realize that God had called you to be an artist?
A2)The desire to be an artist has always been in my heart and when I became saved the desire grew stronger. My talent and gift comes from God and no where else. It is He who gives me ideas and direction in what I paint, and each painting is for a particular person for His purpose to encourage and love through it to that person. I call these paintings a kiss from heaven.
.
Q3) Where did you receive your training?
A3)I have never had a lesson in my life, more evidence that it comes from the Lord.
Q4)How did your training influence what you’re doing now?
A4)I have never had training but my influence comes from the Lord. Before I begin to paint I seek the Lord and the ideas just start flowing. I don’t always know who the painting for right away. For example, I was in the middle of painting bookmarks to give to each of the girls in our Bible study. I wasn’t sure what I sure do for one of the girls in particular but I felt the Lord telling me to do a horse, the one I have posted on Create by Faith. I had no idea how to do a horse’s head but sketched it out and began painting. But what was more amazing is this bookmark was to go to someone who was hurting. When I gave it to her she said “how did you know what my first horse looked like?” I said “I didn’t but God certainly did.” And I shared the gospel with her.
Q5)Please describe your art style and medium and why you chose that particular one (or how God influenced this choice).
A5)My style is simple and hopefully brings encouragement with it. I chose watercolor because it felt right for me, I love how it looks and I love the challenge of the medium itself. I know in my heart that my desires are that of the Lord’s desires for me. I don’t know any other way to describe it.
Q6)What do you do or use to keep yourself inspired for your art work?
A6)I stay in God’s Word daily and seek Him first.
.
Q7)In what ways do you incorporate God into your work?
A7)I think God incorporates Himself in my work, in the direction He gives me and the people He chooses to receive them. Each one of my original whimsical snowmen on my blog and in my Etsy store were done for special individuals. http://www.etsy.com/shop/WhiteoakGallery http://atthebendintheroad.blogspot.com.
Q8) Is there a class or offer that you would like to share with my readers?
A8)No, I don’t offer a class but would like to offer a little tidbit of information and that would be Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Whatever the Lord desires for me—that is what I desire in my heart.
Q9) Any final thoughts about sharing your art work with my blog readers?
A9)Yes, seek the Lord with all your heart.
I am an artist . . . I love nature and all things beautiful . . . I am on the long road home just meandering as I go enjoying the scenery . . . being refreshed and restored along the way by the Lord whom I love and serve.
