Why Weight? Add This Helpful Holiday Habit Today!
Guest blog post by Marnie Swedberg
Five minutes from now you will be equipped to enjoy your holiday bites more than ever before, take in less calories than you think possible, and all the while increase your spiritual connection with God.
I’ve been “Eating with God” (www.EatingwithGod.com) for a few years now and it just gets better and better! I enjoy my food more than I ever have in my life—without guilt or shame. I find myself talking with God several extra times per day, which has always been a goal of mine, but was hard to fit into a busy schedule. And, as a bonus, I’ve lost over 50 pounds.
It’s super simple and effective:
- Pause a moment before or during each bite.
- Give yourself permission to be grateful for that bite.
- Completely enjoy the taste in your mouth.
If you’re like me, you’ve invested a lot of time and energy dieting. When God showed me the “Eating with God” (www.EatingwithGod.com) concept, He simultaneously showed me a new picture of the word diet: The word “die” with a cross at the end of it.
There was only ever one person who was supposed to die on a cross for our sins, and Jesus already did it! There is no reason for us to continue to “diet”. The time is now for us to recognize that God intends our eating experiences to be a) enjoyable, b) healthful and c) relational. He longs to share communion with us each and every day, during each and every bite.
Matthew 11:28 holds special meaning for those of us who carry extra pounds around. It is Jesus speaking and He says, “Come unto Me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
I can’t think of any eating regime more peaceful, joyful or blessed than one that focuses my attention on Jesus Christ with each and every bite.
What I have found is that God is literally changing my mind as He slims my body. Foods that used to be addictions for me are no longer a problem. I used to drink 2-4 liters of Diet Coke a day, now none.
Just as ice melts in the presence of the sun, so wrong habits and thought processes melt in the presence of the Son.
My prayer for you is that you’ll adopt this habit of spending more time with Jesus, allowing yourself to appreciate the food He’s gifted to you, enjoying every bite and shedding your excess pounds with His help and support.
Merry Christmas!
